North Korea Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

North Korea - Essay Example The Boxer Rebellion initiated by China had a negative impact on Russian interests. Consequently, Russia sent troops into Manchuria. America instituted the open door policy (1899-1900) to curb Russian expansion. Nevertheless, Russia and Japan fought over Manchuria and Korea (1904-1905). This paper delves into the historical evolution, demographics, politics and other events that have shaped North Korea as such (Armstrong 13). Russia experienced a communist revolution and toppling of the Tsar in 1917; the country officially adopted the name of the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The USSR’s influence had dwindled in East Asia by this time while Japan became more confrontational over Manchuria. The Japanese eventually installed a puppet government in Manchuria after the invasion of 1931-1932. Japan’s aggression escalated to the extent that it declared war on China in 1937. Furthermore, Japan forced the invasion of its culture on Korea through imposing Shinto religion on the Koreans and forcing them to adopt Japanese surnames. Korea’s national endowments were eyed by competing nations culminating in the Korean war of 1950-1952. Government records and statistics are somewhat sketchy. The CIA World Fact Book estimates that the population of North Korea is 24,589,122 as of 2012. People below 14 years old represent 22%; those aged 15-64 represent 69% while those above 65 years old represent 9%. A further look into the statistics reveals that number of females is considerably bigger than that of males within the age range of above 15 years old. The median age is 31.2 for males and 34.6 for females; this is a young median age for both. The birth rate of 14.51 per 1000 and death rate of 9.12 per 1000 combined with a net immigration rate of -0.04 per 1000, which yields a population growth rate of 0.53%. Urbanization is 60% of the population; infant mortality rate is 26.21 deaths per 1000; maternal death rate is

Esse Quam Videri Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Esse Quam Videri - Essay Example The political aspect of seeming rather than being is perhaps at the heart of the issue facing people today. There is a distinct connection between listening to candidates spout platitudes and seeming as if they care about helping people and those who wear T-shirts with pithy political slogans, but do not help the world. A walk around any college campus will reveal that political action in most cases means attacking the surface quality; it is easier to seem as though you are political involved than to be politically involved. Helping people is not political, however; it is a necessity for making the world a better place. I arrived at the decision to quit seeming as though I cared about the surface politics of helping people and actually become someone who helped. Too many people in this country feel they have done enough to help the environment by signing petitions calling for cleaner air standards or opposing drilling in the Alaskan wilderness. Those are great things, to be sure, but to do so is merely to seem as if you care about the environment unless you back it up with action. If you want to really be someone who cares about the environment then you need to make changes in your lifestyle.

The Monkeys Paw Essay Example for Free

The Monkeys Paw Essay What is that sound? she said. Herbert! she was screaming. As the knocking grew louder, the more she screamed. It is a rat honey. I said. No hope, she just kept screaming. As she headed down the stairs, I pictured my son all destroyed. I could not bear to see him that way. I loved my son more than anything but if it meant to bring him back all torn up and tortured, then I would rather him be dead. If it is one thing that I learned from the monkeys paw is that in order to gain your wish you first lose something you love more than anything. Nothing, not even money is worth losing family over. I had to stop my wife before it is too late. I grabbed the monkeys paw and headed downstairs after my wife. I watched desperately as my wife turned the door knob to reveal the figure I only knew so well standing there. I felt tears coming down my face as I realized that figure was my son. My son Herbert was standing at my doorway. Only something was very different. I knew something was off. He was perfectly healthy and in perfect condition. He was not moving. He just stood at the doorway staring. I could tell he was in pain. He was weak. I knew he was not meant to be here. It was as if he sent me some kind of telepathic message telling me it is time to move on. It just was not meant to be that he should be brought back to life. I grabbed the monkeys paw and once and for all made my last wish. I watched as my wifes relieved face turned pale as she watched Herbert disappear into thin air. I knew from then on that nothing would ever be the same again. It is unbelievable how a monkeys paw could ruin someones life. Before it came into my life, everything and everyone were perfectly fine, no matter what we thought. I could hardly bear watch my wife drop to the floor and scream. I wish that my wife would never have to experience this. My wifes pain in itself kills me. As I lay in my bed trying desperately to fall asleep, I started to think about how much I really had and never appreciated it. I never needed two hundred pounds. My life was perfect. Nothing needed to change. If I had one true wish it would be that people should have the ability to appreciate what they have before it is too late. It does not have to be that something bad has to happen for people to realize that everything they have is enough and just because someone else has something they do not have it does not mean they need to have it too. I was woken up the next day by the smell of my wifes cooking. This has to be the way she is coping because she has not cooked anything since Herbert died. As I walking down the stairs I heard a familiar voice. It cant be. I ran as fast I could into the kitchen. Herbert? I said as my eyes started to fill with tears. Hi father, did you sleep well? he said. I went up to him and gave him the biggest hug I have ever given anyone. Oh Herbert, it was a dream. It was dream. Everything is going to be okay. I cant even begin to think of a time that I was so grateful for dreams. Umm okay. he said. Oh Herbert, I only wish you wouldyou know what? Never mind. You and your mother being alive, well and here is all I could ever wish for. As I let my hold on him go, I noticed my son and wifes confused faces. I did not care. All I cared about was that my wife and son were here. They will always be here

Advantages of Learning Organization

Advantages of Learning Organization Due to impacts of the international financial crisis and the notable slowdown of the economy, Bank co has encountered more challenges. Accordingly, Bank co is transforming from an operational company to a sales-oriented one, in a bid to enhance their competitiveness. As the customer services centers are established and original branch institutes are shut down, the structure change influences 7 percent of the workforce. The board doesnt think a young management can handle the shift and further reforms; therefore, a great emphasis is put on staff learning approaches. As the staff capabilities are core resource to an organizations competitive advantage, all the management focuses on the planning and implementing of strategies. This essay not only elaborates Bank cos successful integration its HRM strategy with the overall business strategy, but also discusses the problems in the policy implementation. Some coherent solutions for these problems are also discussed in this essay. 2.0 Bank cos Objective as a Learning Organization 2.1 Definition of Learning Organization Peter (1990) proposed that any organizational thought a learning organization can be conducted by teams led by managers that facilitate a communication that values reflective thought, new patterns of thinking and a suspension of assumptions. In generally speaking, a learning organization has the following characteristics. First, the staff has a shared vision as their daily guideline and considers all organizational processes, functions, activities, and interactions with the overall environment as a member of the system. Second, each staff can air their own opinions to each other without fear of criticism or punishment. Third, staff sacrifices their personal self-interest and integrates department interest to cooperate to achieve the organizations shared vision. 2.2 Advantages of Learning Organization Brandt (2003) proposed that a learning organization is just like a school, a flexible and responsive organization should change in accord with changing circumstances. A learning organization has the following advantages. First, learning organization can promote continuous improvement. Whether project outcomes satisfy customers needs or not relies on how managers assess and narrow the gap between the two. Levine (2001) found that improve managers concentration span to organizational learning is a great potential to establish cooperation and continuous improvement that promote organizational performance. Second, learning organization can promote innovation. Although this statement is obviously true, but there is no quantitative study based on parallels between the characteristics of learning organization and the statement in literature that supports innovation and employee creativity can improve the performance of learning organization (Ramous and Steger, 2000). Third, learning organiz ation can foster community building. As learning community can break through stereotype routines and cultivate effective learning environment. Digenetic (1998) claimed that a learning community should be a mechanism for creating the learning organization. 2.3 Evaluation of Bank cos Objective With the financial crisis wreaking havoc on nations across all continents, the sense of living in a globalized age has become more acute. To cope with profound changes, Bank co made a strategic shift which focuses on four main units. First, human resource planning is long-term programs of Bank co. Due to the resignation of skilled and veteran managers, Bank co supports staff development by offering investment of  ¿Ã‚ ¡17 million. It allocates about 25,000 training days for the staff each year. The training and development (TD) department has finished the training programs for more than 5,600 managers until nowadays. And the training programs coherently focus on five units, such as, resourcing and development, HR quality, training design and delivery, equal opportunities and residential training. Second, training and development should be implemented to management staffs at all levels. Since a survey indicates that 60% employees considered that the training programs are just attending courses, the TD department decided to implement a wider range of flexible training methods, such as, self-directed learning, coaching, job rotation, secondments, etc. As a result, staff at all levels start to self-study in learning resource center without the reliance on training courses. Their hobbies and interests have been explored by a large margin. Thats to say, Bank co cultivates a learning atmosphere within the company, and ushers staff to take the responsibility of self-development. Third, employee relations are another focus of Bankco. The employee relations are cooperative instead of competitive, because staff at all levels share the same goal of the organization. It coincides with the policy of a harmonious society. It is an opportunity for staff to realize themselves, while it is a challenge for the managers who provide opportunities within which the staff can learn and develop. According to Maslows hierarchy of needs, self-actualization is the highest need on the pyramid of needs, self-actualization must produce an attraction and stimulant for staff to find themselves (Maslow, 2008). Fourth, personnel operation is important. As HR department had considerable power, Bank co established a belief that a learning organization would remain competitive and successful. The shift causes an unprecedented series of efforts and initiatives intended to learn from diverse source, because the line managers are responsible for ensuring that proper action will be good for individuals who keep a partnership with their mangers. During the establishment of learning organization, Bankco has achieved good financial performance as a reward. 2.4 The Achievement of Learning Shift The shift from being operational to becoming sales oriented has brought significant changes in the performance of Bank co. First, as a learning organization, Bankco retains knowledge workers. Bank cos shift causes some of middle-aged managers to leave, when the company is in desperate need of talent to rebuild itself. Therefore, the management had to give top priority to learning programs to cultivate talent as fast as possible. Second, the learning center collects public recording which is unobtrusive and useful in the execution of decision-making and work process. The data on management and information about staff behaviors to certain jobs are useful for researches to analyze Bank cos operation and set down the appropriate management policies. As learning is applied to innovate or modify individual dispositions, processes, policies, and procedures, the staff can further develop their interests and hobbies, Bankco can improve its management experience as well. 5.0 Conclusion In our uncertain world, the only thing that appears to be certain is that social computer-base communication technologies are rapidly becoming online hot spots and changing the way we communicate and information. It is convenient to express social relationships on the IM and blog through links and comments. But we should take advantage of these technologies and overcome their challenges. The best approach is to develop good habits to use computer-based communication technologies, even the link is from friends, they need verify to friends again.

Secrets in Conjugal Relationships Essay -- Literary Analysis

â€Å"Is it always a betrayal to talk about your husband with another man? What about girlfriends or astrologists?† (Dormen). In modern society, people’s feelings and desires are limited by rules of law and morality, especially when they relate to marriage and conjugal relationships. In The Storm, Kate Chopin raised a moral issue of adultery between characters of the short novel-Calixta and Alcee. She discussed the questions based on the metaphor of storm and the lack of passion in Calixta and Bobinot’s marriage. Similarly, in A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen scrutinized an issue of a marriage lacking love. He depicted relationships between Nora and Torvald and showed how imperious attitude and misunderstandings ruined conjugal relationships eventually. Both stories are connected by a common problem of secrets that arose from misunderstandings between the spouses. They solved the problem of misunderstanding in different ways, depending on cultural and personal distinctions of the characters. Therefore, the stories ended differently. Chopin concluded that the adulterous act made positive short-term changes in the marriage depicted in The Storm. In contrast, Ibsen ended his play A Doll’s House by stating that lack of understanding and communication led to the marriage collapse. In her short novel The Storm, Chopin explained how an extramarital affair between Calixta and Alcee became a factor benefiting the marriage. Chopin ended the story with the words, â€Å"So the storm passed, and everyone was happy† (123). The story is interesting not only because of the conclusion that infidelity had a beneficial short-term outcome to the family relationships, but also by intricacies that resulted in the happy end. In the middle of the novel, Chopin utiliz... ...pt unrevealed because of her naivety, passionate and pure love to the husband, did not contain any vicious deeds or intentions. However, upon revealing the secret, the true attitude of the couple to each other uncovered and Nora preferred to live alone to life with the husband who called her a criminal and decided to part with her for a formal mistake that saved him love. Morocco: Economy and Trade

King Mohammed VI realized the need and potential in energy and the impact that it would have upon the government and the presiding society.   The process of redeveloping the country has taken over five years as the eco-system has suffered and the unemployment rate are holding at 20 percent of the population in the cities.   The US -North African Economic Partnership is only half of the global integration as the Morocco- EU Association Agreement has been developing since March of 2000.   The interglobal dependency is attending to the needs of 1) telecommunications/ information systems 2) electric power system 3) environmental technology 4) water and waste water treatment and 5) tourism.   These primary needs will develop the economy that had originate in the farms and crops that include wheat, feed grain, and crude vegetable oil. The restrictions upon the businesses of imports and exports has been used to develop the nations as quickly as possible. The restriction of any imports is nominal as the economy relies on the developing trade from the US and the EU.   The control that is imposed by their government has been reduced to alleviate any more problems from credit and foreign exchange allocution; reduce trade barrier; increase monitoring of governmental spending; and the introduction of new corporations. The previous stance as foreign trade has reduced by adhering to the Morocco’s World Trade Organization.   The public acceptance of the American goods and services as the time span for development will begin to change their society.   The   more products that are from the United States will allow great accessibility and the affect that it will have upon the economy.   Simplify the process by reducing the tariff and having the inspections   simpler.   Many companies such as Coco- Cola, Fruit of the Loom, Johnson and Johnson, and Pfizer will encourage the economy and have a positive result upon the society.
